About the Artist:
Dana Donkle
Dana Donkle is a visual artist and marine science educator based in St. Petersburg, Florida, working under the creative alias Octopus Garden Art. Her work explores the deep interconnectedness of the natural world through surrealism, using unlikely combinations—such as octopuses entwined with blooming flowers—to encourage viewers to see nature from a fresh perspective.
With a vibrant color palette, varied brushstrokes, and a spirit of exploration, Dana’s art evokes a sense of childlike wonder. Each piece is an invitation to reimagine Earth’s ecosystems with curiosity and awe. Her journey began at age five, sketching coral reef fish in a notebook after snorkeling—an early fascination that blossomed into a lifelong passion.
By day, Dana educates others about marine science; by night, she brings her artistic visions to life. She shares her work with the St. Petersburg community through live painting events, local markets, environmental murals, and gallery exhibitions. Whether on canvas or in conversation, Dana aims to inspire others to reconnect with the beauty and mystery of the natural world.
