The recent hurricanes have impacted our Mermaid Tail Trail, leaving some of our beloved mermaids temporarily displaced. Unfortunately, a few of our shimmering friends are currently unavailable for viewing. However, our team is working diligently to restore and reinstall the displaced mermaids. We appreciate your patience and understanding. Please check back with us for updates on when these magnificent mermaids will return to their posts along the trail.

The Way Home

The mermaid statue depicts an old vintage-style map that a pirate might have used, with a star on Weeki Wachee indicating that it is always ‘the way home.’

About the Artist:

David Hendrickson

David Hendrickson is a 35-year experienced artist that started his walk about into the unknown at 14 years of age in a hand-painted sign shop in Englewood, Florida. Mentor, Bernie Reading, honed him into a sign writer and crafter by age 18. Being introduced to airbrush and pinstriping art forms during that period, sign painting and the realm of custom culture became his passion.

His quality of work grew, and so did his clientele that featured his work in magazine publications like “Signcraft,” “Southern Rodder” and “8 Lug Diesel.” After many years in Charlotte County, Florida, he decided to simplify life to focus on his family and artwork. This decision brought him to live in Dade City, Florida since 2011. Now from his homebase studio and with mobile capabilities, he keeps his business “Hotbrushfx” slinging paint in mostly the “Kustom Kulture” scene.
